What makes "Christian" special (other than the obvious) is that he is the 300th bunny to arrive at our facility this year. As of this writing (07/31/03) we have received 326 bunnies at our facility!! Over 300 bunnies in only the first half of this year! One man visiting us said, "I didn't know there were this many rabbits in the entire valley!". ALSO, at this point, we are proud to say that we've found happy homes for over half that amount (176 to date). ![]() More Good News ... If you now pull up the chronological view of our Bunny List, you'll see that "Jordan" is not at the head of the list anymore! He and five other bunnies were adopted together as a group by a woman that had a large multi-story hutch with something like 90 square feet of space. But the number of bunnies was not the only thing unusual about this adoption ... she actually requested bunnies that had been "passed over" and had not been adopted for whatever reason. We are blessed, occasionally, with people that truly want to rescue a bunny. We are forever grateful to these folks (you know who you are) for their desire to truly "do right by the bunnies". I saw a phrase once (may not be the exact wording) that puts this spirit into perspective ... If you rescue one animal, you will not change the world ... but you will have changed the world of that one animal. ![]() It's Pullin' Our Way ! ... We have finally seen a "break-over" point for this year. We are happy to report that we have found homes for more than half the number of incoming bunnies! To date (07/31) we have received 326 bunnies at our facility - Boy-howdee ... that's a buncha bunnies! BUT ... we've also found homes for 176!! We're so very thankful that we've been blessed with such success, but, as we continue to say ... Our work is hardly finished. ![]() Some News Is Not So Nice ... "Homecoming" is not such a nice word around here. We just had Josie's homecoming. Josie was adopted out to a man and son that proved to us that they would take great care of him. Dad said that he'd built a hutch and the son wanted a bunny more than anything in the world, it seemed. That was last February, but they must have thought it was April Fool's Day! The man brought him back to us in a milk crate with a wire panel on top (we only pray that this wasn't the "hutch" he spoke of), stating abruptly ... "We've got bunny issues" and just as abruptly walked away saying, "He's just too much trouble." That last statement was obvious when we held Josie and found him only a "bag of bones". He was obviously malnourished and frail. Not much longer and he would probably have been dead. To Josie's credit, he's a strong bunny and will surely come back to his former size. We just hope he'll forgive us. We can only hope for the best. He's in foster care, now, for some more personal attention. We'll keep you posted. |
