We've had so many people ask about Josie that it's amazed us. We're sorry to take so long, but we did promise to keep you posted. ![]() People like reading about Josie -- Josie likes reading about people. Josie, being a bit older, already had one strike against him -- then his foul treatment didn't help (His first story is in the Story Archive) .. However, as we said, he's a strong bunny. Josie had mites, severe muscle loss, bilateral nasal discharge and URI (Upper Respiratory Infection) ... but that was easy to take compared to a suspected cardiac arrhythmia. Kim (his foster mom) has been doing great with him. He's responded well and is showing signs of improvement all around! He can make it to the top of the computer desk "in a single bound" -- so much for muscle loss, eh? Arrhythmias may be benign, symptomatic, life threatening or even fatal. We are beginning to believe that Josie's is a "live with it" thing. He's just too "rowdy" to leave us, it seems. But we'll let you know of any new developments. ![]() Lest We Forget ... Just because we haven't been showing you page after page of cruelty, abandonment and abuse doesn't mean it's not still going on. One lady brought us her bunnies to board, while she was out of town, because her husband didn't like them so much that he'd previously simply opened the cage and let the dog at 'em ... death for the one the dog got a hold of. The ones she brought to us were in graduating states of injury - supposedly burns, etc. ![]() Little Peter that came with them wasn't quite so bad. I guess he could fight better or something. But all had some sort of open or scabbed over wounds. Poor Benjamin ... we didn't even put him on the Bunny List when they got here because we didn't know if he would even make it. He even stunk of rotting flesh. We wondered if we would actually even consider letting her have them back, but, as we figured, she didn't come back or return our calls. We managed to nurse them all back to health, and little Ben just got adopted! Andrew is now being fostered to see what it will take to get him to trust people again - if ever. We changed Peter's name to Paul (to help him and us get over it) and he's now living quietly with Missy. We'll keep you posted. ![]() Shirley Is Gone We're sorry to report that Shirley finally "went to the bridge". All pets do, of course, but Shirley would have certainly lived longer had she been treated better before we got her. Pastuerella wins again. PLEASE think of cleanliness and care for your bunnies. We are heartened though by knowing that she lived a year longer than she would have if she hadn't "found us". Carol & Gary adopted her because she needed special care - and she certainly got it! The phrase "spoiled rotten" comes to mind. But seriously ... We can't express the gratitude we hold for those of you that are not looking for a pet as much as you are looking to help. We thank you all so very, very much. ![]() |
