Another Wannabee Breeder Strikes !!

Definition: Wannabee .. A person who tries, sometimes obsessively, to emulate a person, profession, or activity they are drawn to - for whatever reason, for a given time - eventually giving it up. Use is durogatory. Logic dictates that a successful wannabee would be called a student, apprentice, beginner, etc.

Yeah, this was another “let’s get rich selling rabbits” wannabee. “We never saw any reason to get her spayed since she was by herself”, he said.

But then, interestingly, the wife takes her bunny to “a friends house” and - oops - she comes back bred. All but two of that litter aren’t around anymore, but it’s funny that there’s another litter — oops, and another litter.

He tells us, “We’re going to keep her, but if she’s pregnant again, (laughing) at least we know we can get rid of them now by just bringing them to you.” At that point I all..most came unglued. He continued, “but we’re going to get her fixed to keep this from happening again.” My question is .. why not after the first litter?

By the way he was laughing about the whole thing, I, personally, believe that they just wanted try the mother-son breeding so they wouldn’t have to pay for a stud at their “friend’s house” again. Not understanding bunnies, they quickly let things get out of hand and they needed to find a “bunny landfill” to dump them all … That would be us.

Not even one week into the new year (01/06/06) This man (and his wife, not present) dumped fifteen rabbits of various ages on us with two or possibly even three pregnant does in the mix.

Again, this one unthinking, uncaring wannabee breeder and their one female bunny has locked us up for fifteen more hutches with the possibility of locking us out of twenty-four more (pregnant does) on top of that! That’s a total of (plus or minus) thirty-nine possibilities for real rescues that could go wanting.

Don’t let anyone you talk to get away with the “What can one litter hurt?” question. Tell them about these and the other times we’ve shared with you.

Unnecessary or “accidental” breeding causes death, not life.
