Hay:

Hay should be offered in unlimited amounts. Most people find the smaller 2-4 pound bags offered at various pet stores to be an ample supply. Of course, if you've got the means to store a bale (dry - out of direct sun), a better price will be found at a feed store.

Hay is the very best source of fiber - an absolute requirement of a bunny diet for intestinal motility. Another benefit of hay is the grinding of the teeth. Anyone that has had to deal with a rabbit's dental malocclusion will testify to that important aspect.

Hay ... Which kind?

Alfalfa hay, the old standby, should not be fed to rabbits. It won't kill them (immediately), but it is too rich in Calcium and Carbohydrates for a healthy bunny in the long run.

Grass hay is a good hay for all the previous reasons. Bermuda grass is usually used, but, whatever the grass, it's still a good choice.

Timothy hay is "hands down" the best hay for bunnies. Not only is it good stout hay, but its nutritional value seems to have been designed with bunnies in mind.
